2. Kapellmeister Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar
Johannes Pierre Bettac (born 1999) has been engaged as 2nd Kapellmeister at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar starting with the 2025/2026 season.
This engagement was preceded by several assistantships at international venues: At the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, he assisted Alain Altinoglu with the new production of Wagner's Siegfried (director: Pierre Audi). At the Semperoper Dresden, he worked as musical assistant for the revival of Luciano Chailly's Die kahle Sängerin under the musical direction of Thomas Leo Cadenbach.
Alongside his work in music theatre, Johannes Pierre Bettac has also built relationships on the concert podium with orchestras such as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, the Orquesta de Extremadura, the Orquesta de Córdoba, the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, the Philharmonisches Orchester Hagen, the Staatskapelle Halle, as well as the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, and the Basque National Orchestra (Euskadiko Orkestra).
He also assisted Christoph Eschenbach (Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra), Marie Jacquot (Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin), and Frank Beermann (Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford).
Already during his studies, he worked as an assistant at the Landestheater Detmold on various productions and also led smaller performances. Before his studies, he completed an internship as a répétiteur at Theater Hof. He also gathered important impulses at the Bayreuther Festspiele in 2023 as part of the master course for conductors, where he intensively accompanied the entire rehearsal process.
Johannes Pierre Bettac is also a prize-winner of several competitions. In 2022, he won 1st prize at the 16th Concorso Internazionale per pianisti accompagnatori "Ottorino Respighi" Milano and, in the same year, reached the final of the Ionel Perlea Conducting Competition, in 2023 of the RNCM Conducting Fellowship in Manchester, and in 2026 of the 23rd International Vocal Chamber Music Competition "C. A. Seghizzi" with his duo partner Julia Valero.
In addition to multiple first prizes and special prizes at the German national level of the "Jugend musiziert" competition in the piano or duo categories, he won the 2020 special prize of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) at the International Competition for Verfemte Musik.
Johannes Pierre Bettac completed his bachelor's degree under Florian Ludwig at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. Since 2024, he has been continuing his education in a postgraduate program at the renowned Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid under Nicolás Pasquet, Jordi Francés, and Miguel Ángel Cañamero, which he will complete in the 2026/2027 season. He received his basic musical training from childhood on with the Augsburger Domsingknaben.
